In today's world of growing social media and marketing companies are looking to Facebook and other social media sites to check up on their future and past employees to make predictions for if they're right for the position being recuited or the one they already have. Just check out this article Facebook Profiles Accurately Predict Job Performance [STUDY] from Mashable Business by Todd Wasserman. Some of the article may surprise you for what constitutes what businesses are looking for such as what Wasserman calls the "Big Five personality traits (openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism)."
In another article by Wei Du from MSN.com, Job candidates getting tripped up by Facebook, Du explains how professionals are seeking other opportunities to find out information on a future prospect at their company. In some cases an employer actually rejected a highly qualified candidate but due to their inappropriate Facebook page was turned down. More employers are looking to Facebook for information on candidates because they are new to the field and do not have any references therefore they just look on your social media site. Its amazing how much the world is growing along with social media sites. Ten years ago there was not much networking over the internet especially for looking up a future employee. It just goes to show that it is important how you are being projected on your social media sites.
